414 days, 15.000 km, 15 countries. A young man cycles across the African continent looking for adventure and finds himself along the way.

Elsewhere. Alone in Africa tells the breath-taking story of young Anselm, who - suddenly separated from his travel companions - decides to cycle alone across the African continent. His only companion is his camera. A fascinating journey unfolds step by step, showing encounters with remarkable people and wild nature. An inner journey, which shows how open and colorful the world can be, if you let go and follow the instinct to trust others and yourself.

 Cape Town. On his 24th birthday, geophysicist Anselm heads out on a journey through Africa with two friends. On their fully laden bicycles, they explore South Africa for three months until the trio surprisingly splits in the scorching Kalahari Desert. While his friends fly home, Anselm brings himself to continue the journey north  alone .

 Cautiously at first and feeling quite exposed to his surroundings, he crosses bridges to various cultures and adapts their simple way of life. Step by step his incredible path unfolds and leads him through 15 countries of the African continent. His convictions to not buy water, travel only by his own strength, and camp in unimaginable places, challenge him over and over and lead him to extraordinary experiences full of adventure and adversity: encounters with hippos, repeated malaria and typhus infections, robberies by uniformed officers, discrimination, and ultimately the greatest challenge – 3.000 kilometres through the Sahara against the relentless North Wind.

Over a year and 15,000 kilometers later, right before his arrival at the Suez-Canal, he is arrested by the Egyptian military and his journey seems to face an unpleasant end …

 The film premiered November 29th, 2018.  Since then, almost 100.000 viewers in German, Austrian and Swiss cinemas have seen the film.  A huge thank you goes out to the courageous cinema operators for showing this independent production every single week since its premiere.
